Actually, the story of this shop starts with a cart, which was started by the father of the shop owner Biru about 54 years ago. First he started selling chickpeas and later started serving rice along with it. Today, this shop by the name of Biru Chole Chawalwala located in Machhi Bazaar is famous everywhere. The taste of Biru’s chickpea rice is unforgettable and you will not see their style of making chickpea rice on Malu leaves anywhere else.
While talking to Local 18, shop owner Biru says that a taste like his is not available anywhere else in Dehradun. The taste of their chickpea rice is different and that is why it has remained in the market for the last 50 years. His popularity among the customers is continuously increasing and people from far and wide come to his shop just to taste his chickpea rice. They serve Chole rice for ₹30 and Kachalu Chole Chaat for ₹50 on Malu leaves.
Taste and custom that has been going on for 54 years
In the food business, you must have often seen that you get many types of dishes in a restaurant or shop, but Biru Chole Chawal of Dehradun serves you only Chole Chawal or Kachalu Chole Chaat. And he has been doing this work for the last 54 years. Biru says that serving chickpea rice on Malu leaves is a custom of his early days. His father used to serve chickpeas on Malu leaves to people by setting up a cart, hence till date he has not changed this tradition of his shop.
